At Truly Moate, we’re proud to introduce
Dr. Seif Mohamed, one of the only Specialist
Periodontists serving the Irish midlands.

With years of experience and a passion for restoring/maintaining healthy gums,
Dr. Mohamed brings expert care closer to home.

In Ireland, Periodontists are registered with the Irish Dental Council; to become a
Specialist Periodontist, they must complete a postgraduate qualification in
Periodontology - typically lasting 3 to 4 years. This allows them to treat complex gum
conditions that general dentists may not be equipped to handle.

Dr Mohamed completed 3 years of specialist training at Dublin Dental University
Hospital, where he was awarded a doctorate in periodontology and implantology.

He is certified with the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP), and holds a
Fellowship in Periodontology from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

What Does a Specialist Periodontist Do?

A Specialist Periodontist provides expert care in managing the health of your gums and the

Gum Disease Treatment:

Dr Mohamed is an expert in managing both Gingivitis (early-stage Gum Disease) and Periodontitis (advanced Gum Disease), helping you to prevent tooth loss
and further complications.

Scaling and Root Debridement:

These are deep-cleaning techniques used to remove plaque and tartar below/underneath the gum line, promoting gum healing and reducing gum inflammation.

Gum Contouring:

Gum Contouring, also known as Gum Reshaping or Gingival Sculpting, is a cosmetic dental procedure used to improve the appearance of the gumline. It involves reshaping or removing excess gum tissue to create a more balanced, symmetrical smile. This procedure is typically performed when patients have a "gummy smile" (where too much gum tissue shows) or an uneven gum line, which can make teeth appear smaller or disproportionate.

Gum Grafting:

Gum grafting is a dental procedure used to treat the loss of gum tissue. When the gum tissue recedes, it can expose the roots of the teeth, leading to sensitivity, an increased risk of decay, and potential tooth loss. Gum grafting involves taking tissue from another part of the mouth, often the roof of the mouth (palate), or using donor tissue, and attaching it to the affected areas to cover the exposed roots.

Guided tissue regeneration (GTR):

This is a specialised procedure used to promote the growth of new bone and tissue around teeth that have been affected by periodontal (gum) disease. GTR encourages the regeneration of bone and tissues that support your teeth, which can prevent tooth loss and improve your overall oral health.

Crown Lengthening:

Crown lengthening is a surgical procedure used to expose more of a tooth by removing gum tissue (and sometimes bone) from around the tooth. This procedure is often performed for two main reasons; if a tooth is decayed, broken below the gumline, or lacks sufficient structure to support a crown/filling, crown lengthening is done to expose more of the tooth, allowing for proper restoration.
