We look forward to welcoming you
to Dame St Dental Hospital and
improving your oral health

At Truly we are proud to be the first and only facility in Ireland and the UK to provide dental
care under general anaesthesia. We understand that many of our patients have had
negative dental experiences (often as children) which has created a profound fear and
anxiety of the dental setting.

Our goal with general anaesthesia is to provide safe, affordable and comfortable dental
care for even the afraid and surgically complex patients. We work together with medical
anaesthetists in a setting which has everything required for orthognathic surgery, implant
surgery and general dentistry.

Everything You Need to Know
About General Anaesthesia
in Dentistry

For many people, the thought of undergoing dental treatment can bring about feelings of
anxiety or fear. At Truly Dental, we understand how important it is to feel at ease and safe
while receiving dental care. This is why we offer a variety of sedation options, including
general anaesthesia (GA), intravenous (IV) sedation, and nitrous oxide sedation, each
designed to cater to different needs.

What is General Anaesthesia
in Dentistry?

General anaesthesia (GA) is a controlled state of unconsciousness administered by a specialist
anaesthetist doctor, often used in complex or invasive dental procedures. Unlike other sedation
methods that allow patients to remain conscious, general anaesthesia puts patients into a deep
sleep, eliminating any awareness or sensation of pain during the treatment.

GA is performed in a hospital or specially equipped clinic environment, where patients are
monitored continuously to ensure their safety and well-being throughout the procedure.

How General Anaesthesia Can Aid
Your Dental Treatment

General anaesthesia can be incredibly beneficial for patients undergoing extensive dental
procedures, or those who experience significant anxiety or phobia surrounding dental
treatments. Here’s how it aids in various scenarios:
